History

In 2003, Prof. Edmund Koch was appointed professor for “Clinical Sensoring and Monitoring” within the scope of the NBL-3-programm (funding program for newly-formed German states). At the University of Applied Sciences Lübeck, he gained vast experience on optical coherence tomography (OCT) and for the first time Prof. Koch brought this technology to Dresden. This was the start of our success story!

In the beginning with only three staff members, the research group has constantly grown due to successful third-party funding and has about 15 to 20 staff members today. They come from most different scientific fields, such as physics, medical technology, information technology, chemistry and electrical engineering. In 2006, Prof. Gerald Steiner, an expert for spectroscopy, joined the research group and established our second research focus. Our scientific results are continuously published in high-ranked journals and underline our outstanding scientific reputation in the field of OCT and spectroscopy.

Besides sciences, free time activities are not missed out and contribute to a very sociable working atmosphere. For example, our annual hiking day has meanwhile become a tradition!
