The Institute
The Institute strives for international reputation, competitive and methodically highly developed and innovative research in different fields of life sciences which refers intensively to biomedical questions. At the same time the institute offers a wide-spread, consistent and current teaching curriculum in biochemistry and molecular biology for students of human and dental medicine.
Overview
The institute strives to offer internationally recognized, competitive, methodically highly developed and innovative research in several areas of life sciences with intense relation to biomedical questions. At the same time, the institute offers a complex, innovative and sound teaching curriculum in physiological chemistry and molecular biology for students of human and dental medicine. Several members of our institute mentor PhD thesis projects for PhD students in Medicine, Dental medicine and life sciences, amongst them also PhD students from the Dresden International Graduate School of Biochemistry and Bioengineering. Interactive research with integration in several research centers is one of the main goals of the institute, besides a high number of externally funded single projects.
The research areas of the institute are chromosome dynamics of male and female germ cells with a special focus on the generation of aneuploidies and other chromosome aberrations, several aspects of bone biology, lung alveolar cells, the diabetic spermatogenesis as well as some hematopoietic cell systems and their role in hematopoietic tissue generation, allergies, immune reactions and DNA repair processes. Scientific curiosity, an enthusiastic will to perform research as well as joy in teaching and with the interactions with our students are central goals of our institute.
