The Robotics Institute Germany is a network funded by the Federal Ministry of Research, Technology and Space that aims to raise the international profile of artificial intelligence (AI)-based robotics in Germany by networking research, industry and application. Prof Stefanie Speidel (Translational Surgical Oncology at the NCT Dresden), Prof Marius Distler (Complex Minimally Invasive and Robotic Surgery at the VTG) and Prof Martin Wagner (AI-based Assistance Systems in Surgery) are involved as Principal Investigators on behalf of Dresden University Medicine. At this year's automatica 2025, Europe's largest robotics trade fair, the Robotics Institute Germany represented an area with numerous events. Specialist presentations by experts offered in-depth insights into current trends and technologies in robotics. In an invited panel discussion, Prof Nassir Navab (TUM), Prof Hanno Matthaei (UK Bonn), Stefan Jörg (Medtronic Germany), Prof Pietro Valdastri (University of Leeds), Dr Tobias Luksch (ITK Engineering) and Rayan Younis, a clinician scientist and surgical MD candicate in USE-IT³, presented their views on ways to translate surgical robots from research to the clinic.
