Vision
The Unit for Surgical Excellence in Innovation and Translation for Technology and Training (USE-IT³) is a research and training unit of the Department for Visceral, Thoracic and Vascular Surgery at the University Hospital Carl Gustav Carus at Technische Universität Dresden.
Two professorships and several researchers have joined forces with the aim of researching and developing innovative technologies and procedures in surgery. Assistance systems and methods are being developed to significantly advance both surgical treatment and training in the field of minimally invasive and robotic surgery.
USE-IT³ concentrates on the following research areas:
- Complex minimally-invasive and robotic surgery - Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Marius Distler, MHBA, FACS
- AI-based assistance systems in surgery - Univ.-Prof. Dr. med. Martin Wagner
- Training, skill & performance assessment in surgery - PD Dr. med. Florian Oehme & Dr. med. Felix von Bechtolsheim
- AI-based intraoperative guidance and outcome prediction in surgery - Dr. med. Fiona Kolbinger
- Methods for intraoperative analysis & imaging of GI-tumors - Dr. med. Christian Teske, LL.M.
