Abstract:

Enteroviruses are small non-enveloped RNA viruses that cause a range of mild and severe pathologies, including poliomyelitis (acute flaccid paralysis), vesicular stomatitis (hand-, foot-, and mouth disease), meningitis, pneumonia, and the common cold. To cause an infection, these viruses must engage with the cellular receptor, become endocytose, and move their genome into the cell. In this talk we will explore how cryo-electron microscopy can help examine the molecular details of these processes, and how they can be inhibited.
