The ZML is constantly evolving and currently consists of four permanent research groups.

Prof. Ünal Coskun is the founder and head of the center. Ünal heads the group of Membrane Biochemistry.
Prof. Maria Fedorova heads the group of Lipidome Research
Dr Michal Grzybek heads the Signal Transduction group
Prof. Ingmar Schaefer heads the group Structural Membrane Biology
