NATURE MEETS TECHNOLOGY - Pilot Study in the Botanical Gardens of Dresden and Leipzig
Together with our PhD student Sena Seçil Akpinarli from Hacettepe University (Ankara, Turkey), the team of the chair's research area "Plant Play" has developed the first digitally supported learning stations with the integrated application Actionbound in the botanical gardens of Dresden and Leipzig. Over the past few weeks, 2nd semester students in Dresden and 6th semester students in Leipzig have been able to get a first impression of the stations and take part in a pilot project.
The focus is on 'phenomenal' plants such as the orchid genus Vanda or the pipe flower Aristolochia arborea. Using these examples, biology students will extend their specialist knowledge of the basic plant organs, learn about the 'phenomenal' characteristics of each plant and experience a modern method of learning in the field.
In addition to investigating the functionality and feasibility of mobile learning stations in the Botanic Garden, the pilot study aims to explore students' perceptions and learning needs in relation to this learning approach, as well as initial trends in the cognitive and emotional effects of game-based and non-game based stations.
We would like to thank the team of Biology Didactics in Leipzig as well as the Botanical Garden Leipzig for their support and all students for their participation and feedback! Find more impressions from Leipzig here!
