The fiftieth issue of BioS Reports is being published

In July, the 50th issue of *BioS Reports* (link),a publication edited by students in the Biology in Society degree program,was released. Every month, the journal features articles dedicated to science communication, written almost exclusively by students, including original essays in the field of “Economically Important Animals and Plants,” in which students independently quantify the millions of euros worth of resources that animals provide to us free of charge or the costs they incur in national economies. The publication also covers laboratory practicums, the titles of completed master’s theses, and country-specific breakdowns of application numbers and acceptance rates for the Biology in Society degree program. The “Fact Check” section examines the empirical basis of biology-related news stories currently circulating in the media and is now complemented by the “Science Unpacked” podcast series, which was launched a year ago. Of course, reports on a meeting between BioS students and a Nobel laureate—which has already taken place twice—are a must. By the way, the anniversary issue features a quiz: the first email with all the correct answers wins; the contest is open until August 31...

“BioS Reports and the Science Unpacked podcast offer students opportunities to try their hand at various things on many levels,” says Professor Klaus Reinhardt, who launched the degree program together with Prof. Oliver Zierau. “What started as a small experiment to further motivate students to engage in science communication—beyond just their grades—has now been running for more than four years and has garnered thousands of views in many countries.”
