Pioneers Lecture
This year´s Pioneers Lecture will be given by Prof. Evamarie Hey-Hawkins
Evamarie Hey-Hawkins was Professor of Inorganic Chemistry at Leipzig University from 1993 to 2023. After her retirement, she joined the Institute of Bioanalytical Chemistry (BBZ) at Leipzig University, Germany. She previously held positions at universities in England, Australia and Germany as well as various visiting professorships.
She acts as a reviewer for several national and international research foundations and serves on several editorial and international scientific advisory boards. She is a member of the German Chemical Society (GDCh) since 1983 and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC) since 1999 among other memberships.
She has published more than 600 scientific articles and given over 400 lectures worldwide. Her numerous awards include e.g. the IUPAC Distinguished Woman in Chemistry Award, the Nenitescu Medal, three honorary doctorates and the Leipzig Science Prize. She is a member of the European Academy of Sciences, the European Academy of Sciences and Arts in Salzburg (and starting 12/2025 Vice-Dean of Class IV) and Academia Europaea. In 2021, she received the prestigious Karl Ziegler Prize.
Her scientific interests are in the field of organophosphorus chemistry, biologically active inorganic compounds (boron and metal), heterometallic transition metal complexes and catalysis. More than 100 doctoral students have graduated from her group.
Presently, she is the vice president of the German Society on Boron Neutron Capture Therapy, Chair of the IUPAC/German Central Committee for Chemistry (DZfCh) and project leader at the Department of Chemistry at Babeș Bolyai University, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.
