Cyanobacteria: Small Candidates as great Hopes for Medicine and Biotechnology
We have recently successfully obtained a Joint Genome Institute CSP grant to use PacBio technology to sequence the genomes of 40 rarely studied cyanobacteria.
Cyanobacteria or blue-green algae are among the oldest forms of life and are of great ecological importance. We have recently started a collaboration with TU Kaiserslautern and Hochschule Kaiserslautern. The cyanobacteria include isolates from various European lichen species, Australian cycad plants and Spitzbergen soil samples.
The genomes will be used by us for a variety of experiments including natural product discovery with DiPaC.
