Research Area B
The next step within the research chain, is the systematic and detailed investigation of physical and chemical properties of the novel 2DMs by diverse experimental methods united in the research area B) Characterization.
Research area B is devoted to characterization topics aiming at providing advanced spectroscopy, diffraction and microscopy techniques for structural and property investigations of synthetic 2DMs developed in research area A. Eight principal investigators coming from TUD, IPF and UULM are involved and cover multi-disciplines, including the physical chemistry, analytical chemistry and material science. Solid-state and in-situ NMR, in-situ spectro-electrochemistry as well as solution-phase NMR, micro-Raman spectroscopy and UHV-STM are key tools for the characterization of the structure and bonding motifs in 2DMs, the analysis of the defects and the boundaries, the description of reaction mechanism, evaluation of the surface reactivity and catalysis activities. The topics of research area B are briefly described as follows:
The analytic results will provide a feedback for the design and synthesis of targeted 2DMs. Due to the guaranteed close interactions, research area A will get a feedback on the optimization of the design principles and the reaction mechanism of 2DMs to realize higher structural integrity.
