Prof. Dr. Lilia Woods, University of South Florida in Tampa (USA), has been awarded a Humboldt Research Award of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. The award includes prize money of 60.000 €. Prof. Woods will spend several months at TU Dresden as a guest of the group of Prof. Dr. Carsten Timm to continue her research together with local scientists.

“The visit in the group of Prof. Carsten Timm will allow me to pursue some emerging problems related to the discovery of new materials”, says Prof. Woods. “Bringing forward the theory of transport beyond the semiclassical description in light of topologically nontrivial systems and novel 2D materials is especially exciting, and I plan on exploring some exciting ideas in this direction with Prof. Timm’s group. I am looking forward to mutually beneficial interactions, through which new science can be discovered.”

Having the freedom to visit and talk to many world experts here in TU Dresden, and other close-by institutions in the broad areas of condensed matter physics is key in forming new ideas and getting new projects off the ground.”
