Math and computer science camp for girls 2026
The East Saxony Math and Computer Science Camp for Girls, organized by the Faculty of Computer Science and the Department of Computer Science Education, took place once again during the second week of fall break at the KiEZ “Am Braunsteich” near Weißwasser. The girls, in grades 7 through 12, came from many different towns in Eastern Saxony, with quite a few also coming from Dresden. As in previous years, many of the girls were returning participants.
In morning workshops, female mathematics students, student teachers specializing in mathematics or computer science, and two Research Associates from the Faculty of Mathematics shared interesting knowledge that went beyond the school curriculum. Topics included, for example: graph theory, modeling a Pringles can using a laser cutter, invariants, AI, and programming for embroidery machines.
In the afternoons and evenings, there was a wide-ranging program of workshops and recreational activities from which the girls could choose based on their interests. On the penultimate evening, everyone gathered for a Science Slam, where three participants presented their scientific projects from school.
After the traditional outdoor game on Thursday afternoon — featuring math and computer science puzzles — everyone gathered for a panel discussion, during which the mentors were available to answer questions about choosing a major and, more generally, the transition from high school to college.
Once again, the camp thrived on its pleasant and positive atmosphere and the colorful autumn scenery of the KiEZ, and it was a very eventful time for both participants and counselors.
What are the prospects?
The next camp is already planned for 2027 at KiEZ Weißwasser.
