GAMM awards Dr. Marco Salvalaglio the Richard von Mises Prize 2024
Marco Salvalaglio was awarded the Richard von Mises Prize. This annual award is given out by the GAMM (Society for Applied Mathematics and Mechanics) for outstanding scientific achievements in the field of applied mathematics and mechanics.
After obtaining his PhD degree at the University of Milano-Biccoca, Marco Salvalaglio received an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Fellowship in 2016, which he carried out jointly at the Faculty of Mathematics at TU Dresden and the Leibnitz Institute for Microelectronics in Frankfurt/Oder. His research activities also took him to Aalto University in Finland and City University in Hong Kong.
During his Humboldt Fellowship, Marco Salvalaglio was already interested in Amplitude equations. He developed numerical algorithms to solve these equations. Over the years, this research topic transformed it into his main occupation.
Currently employed at TU Dresden as an associate researcher, he works and researches at the Center for Computational Materials Science (DCMS) as well as the Center for Intelligent Materials (DCIM), and has also been leading his Emmy Noether research group since 2021.
Amplitude equations are also the topic of the Emmy Noether group he leads, as it is focussed on mathematical modeling, the development of numerical algorithms and their application in mechanics.
Marco Salvalaglio was awarded the Richard von Mises Prize on Wednesday, March 18th, 2024 for pioneering achievements in his professional and research activities in the fields of applied mathematics and mechanics. Two days later, he gave the Richard von Mises Prize Lecture.
