Mourning for Professor Jürgen Voigt
The Faculty of Mathematics mourns the loss of
Professor Dr. Jürgen Voigt,
who passed away in September 2025 at the age of 81.
Jürgen Voigt studied at the universities of Stuttgart, Tübingen, Paris and New York, among others. In 1970, he graduated with a diploma degree in mathematics from Ludwig Maximilian University (LMU) in Munich. He worked as a research assistant and “Akademischer Oberrat” at LMU, where he also obtained his doctorate in 1975 and his habilitation in 1981. After a professorship at the University of Oldenburg, Jürgen Voigt returned to his old home region Saxony: in 1993, he became Professor of Applied Functional Analysis at Dresden University of Technology. He was deeply committed to the development of the Institute of Analysis, in which he played a major role – for several years also as director of the institute.
Even after his retirement in 2010, Jürgen Voigt remained an extremely dedicated university lecturer whose clearly structured, vivid and always interesting courses were very popular. With his wealth of experience, he was an important mentor and valued advisor to both younger and more experienced colleagues. Thus, we mourn the loss of a beloved person whom we will always remember with fondness.
