This project theoretically studies spin-liquid states of geometrically frustrated magnets using a combination of field-theoretic and microscopic approaches. A significant part of the project will be devoted to the study of local perturbations, arising from crystalline defects, impurities, or other kinds of disorder. The motivation is twofold: First, we intend to consider defects as diagnostic tools of bulk spin-liquid behavior. Second, we aim at investigating novel disorder-induced physics that may arise on a spin-liquid substrate. Further, the project will be concerned with the non-equilibrium dynamics of strongly frustrated spin systems, in particular spin ice. Finally, aspects of topological magnetization textures will be studied.
