This project studies exotic metals, i.e., conducting states without a conventional Fermi surface and with low-temperature behavior distinct from that of a Fermi liquid, in strongly frustrated materials. We will be concerned with thermodynamic and transport properties of such exotic metals as well as with their instabilities and the associated critical phenomena. We will consider (i) conducting frustrated magnets with nontrivial bandstructures, such as Weyl semimetals, (ii) surface metals of such topological phases, (iii) doped frustrated Mott insulators, and (iv) frustrated multi-band metals, such as fractionalized Fermi liquids.
