Postdoctor­al Studies

The postdoctoral degree (Habilitation) serves as the confirmation of a particular qualification for research and independent academic teaching. The postdoctoral degree proves the facultas docendi (teaching capability) and awards the venia legendi (teaching permission). Graduate Academy

Doctoral and Postdoctoral Studies and Degrees

At our faculty, there are about 200 people per year who are doing a doctorate in mathematical-scientific fields after finishing their Master's Degrees or Diploma. They have the choice of either receiving the academic degree Dr. rer. nat. or the PhD. Doctoral studies last about three years. You will be granted access either by direct application at an institute/chair or by a phd-programme (e.g. DIPP).

Postdoctoral studies, however, are a further step on the way of scientific qualification, especially towards the field of academic teaching.
