Bühler TalksB. Spitzer: On Levels of Abstraction in Visuospatial Working Memory
TU Dresden
01187 Dresden
Abstract
Working memory (WM) is strongly capacity-limited but seems highly efficient in providing task-relevant information at the right time and in the right format. In this talk, I will focus on how the momentary format of WM information can be characterized in terms of levels of abstraction. Specifically, I will present new results from eye-tracking, functional imaging, and neural network models on how abstraction of visuospatial WM information unfolds over time and across the cortical hierarchy. Time permitting, I will also address factors that promote the longer-term retention of visual WM information in episodic memory.
