Bühler TalksG. B. Feld: Open science beyond academia: is it relevant?
** This talk is hosted by the Open Science Initiative der Fakultät Psychologie (OSIP) **
Abstract
During the last decade, the move towards open and reproducible science practices has gained more and more momentum in psychology. What started mainly as a grass roots initiative promoted by individual scientists has now received support by a broad range of academics, institutions and funders. The question arises whether these changes in research culture are relevant beyond academia. During the Corona pandemic, for example the availability of research literature via open access as well as the wide-spread use of preprints have highlighted opportunities as well as risks. However, the main question for society remains whether open and reproducible practices increase the utility of science overall by generally improving people’s lives faster than closed science could. This seems likely.
