M. Sc. Kristina Rainich

I studied fundamental and applied linguistics in the Higher School of Economics (HSE), one of the biggest universities in Russia. After that, I decided to narrow my field of study and opted for the master program in Cognitive sciences in HSE where I focused on neurolinguistics. My thesis under the supervision of Dr. Malyutina included modulating sentence processing in healthy humans via transcranial alternating current stimulation. In addition to that, I was a part of a language mapping team under the supervision of Dr. Dragoy. We were concerned with mapping language abilities in people undergoing awake craniotomy in order to avoid possible speech disorders postoperatively. After graduation, I received a Fullbright scholarship that allowed me to receive a MA degree in Linguistics & Cognitive Science in the University of Delaware, USA. There I was intrigued by neuroplasticity, the research on neurological disorders, and computational methods enabling data analysis. As a newly graduated student, I underwent an internship at Duke University under the supervision of Dr. Cogan in the Department of Neurosurgery. There we were studying the effects of lexicality on verbal working memory in healthy controls and patients with epilepsy. In September 2022, I joined the Chair of Cognitive and Clinical Neuroscience at the TU Dresden as a PhD student.
