Methodological and Statistical Consulting
The Chair supports researchers and doctoral candidates (for students) with methodological and statistical questions. The goal of our consulting services is to promote the quality of empirical research and to help researchers make well-informed methodological decisions.
We offer consulting services specifically on the following topics:
- Experimental design and data analysis (e.g., sampling design, regression and analysis of variance, factor analysis)
- Application of complex multivariate methods (e.g., structural equation modeling, multilevel models, generalized linear models)
- Computational modeling (e.g., neural networks, dynamic neural fields, differential equation models, drift-diffusion models, agent-based models)
- Application of dynamic measurement and analysis methods for investigating cognitive processes (e.g., mouse tracking, eye tracking, EEG)
- Problem-specific application of (statistical) software (e.g., R, MATLAB, JASP, JAMOVI)
- Application of open and transparent research practices (e.g., pre-registration, publication of data and analyses)
Consultation Formats
One-time methodological consultation
We offer one-on-one consultations for clearly defined methodological or statistical questions. Since responsibility for the academic supervision and evaluation of PhD projects lies with the respective advisors, we ask that they be involved in the discussion of the research question. This ensures that the developed solutions are integrated into the ongoing supervision process.
Methodological Collaboration Throughout the Project
For research projects with extensive or particularly challenging methodological requirements, long-term support throughout the project may be advisable. In such cases, it should be assessed whether formal participation by the Chair in the research project is appropriate. This can take the form, for example, of an official collaboration, which may include joint publications and co-authorship (in accordance with standard academic practices and with special consideration for Open Science).
We look forward to working with you to develop suitable solutions for your methodological and statistical questions and to successfully support your research projects.
Methodological and Statistical Training
Upon request, the Chair offers continuing education on all of the topics mentioned above. If you are interested, please feel free to contact us. We look forward to working with you to develop appropriate formats tailored to your continuing education needs.
