Teaching and Research at the Chair

Our Chair is responsible for teaching methods and statistics in the bachelor’s program (5 modules) and in the CAN and HPSTS master’s programs (1 module each) (see curriculum). We enrich our foundational and practice-oriented teaching with innovative elements such as the e-learning module “Methods in Psychology” or the practical application of current software.
In addition, we continuously offer topics for methodological bachelor’s and master’s theses and advise students on methodological and statistical issues as they prepare their bachelor’s or master’s theses, as well as during research internships, through an open statistics consultation hour.

The core research area of the Chair is the field of computational modeling of cognitive processes, led by Prof. Stefan Scherbaum. Other research areas of the Chair include dynamic measurement and analysis methods and complex multivariate statistical procedures.
Our research is heavily funded by external funding agencies such as the DFG and the Volkswagen Foundation.

In addition to these teaching and research responsibilities, we are active in university continuing education and collaborate as methodologists with colleagues from other Chairs to support their research projects.
