Successful IKPP symposium in the winter semester 2023/24
The symposium of the Institute of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy (IKPP), which took place from 16 to 17 November, was once again organised this winter semester by the Chair of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology at TU Dresden. In a large number of lectures, staff from all professorships and working groups presented current publications, dissertations and planned research proposals. The practical presentation "Psychosocial counselling and psychotherapeutic treatment of mentally distressed people with a migration background" by Katja Eisenkolb (Das Boot gGmbH) was also very well received.
There were also two keynote speeches by renowned researchers: Prof. Dr Anat Talmon from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem (https://en.sw.huji.ac.il/people/anat-talmon) reported in her lecture on exciting findings on the objectification of the self and disturbed body boundaries as a result of childhood trauma. Prof. Dr Beate Ditzen (https://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de/personen/prof-dr-phil-beate-ditzen-2521) and Dr Monika Eckstein (https://www.klinikum.uni-heidelberg.de/personen/dr-phil-monika-eckstein-2522) from the Institute of Medical Psychology at Heidelberg University Hospital gave an inspiring overview of the neurobiological mechanisms underlying social touch and bonding experiences in their presentation. Finally, on Friday afternoon, four interesting workshops took place, which enjoyed a high number of participants: From the connections between the climate crisis and mental health to two specific therapeutic techniques (Compassion-Focused Therapy and imaginative techniques for behavioural activation) and self-care for (prospective) psychotherapists.
Overall, the IKPP symposium was an inspiring event that intensified the exchange and discussion between staff and students. We would like to thank all participants, speakers, panellists and workshop leaders who contributed to the success of this year's IKPP Symposium with their great collaboration. We look forward to continuing to promote scientific exchange and progress at our institute with this special format in the future.
