How has your work at the SZD helped you to better manage your studies?
Through my training as a writing tutor and my subsequent work at the Writing Center, I learned a lot about academic writing. I was able to acquire basic and in-depth knowledge and learned many helpful methods. The exchange in the team has also enriched my tools for scientific writing. All of this has helped me a lot in the preparation of my scientific texts in my studies.
As someone who has already completed a degree and has the chance to start studying all over again: Is there anything you would approach differently this time around?
I would like to organize my lecture notes differently to be able to follow up better. Specifically, this means that I only want to write on half the page to have room for additions / notes / thoughts during the lecture or in the wrap-up. In addition, I will try to work with significantly more abbreviations, so that I can take notes faster and concentrate better on what is additionally said. I got some ideas from Kirsten Schindler's guide "Klausur, Protokoll, Essay: Kleine Texte optimal verfassen".
What tip would you like to give to all first-year students?
Don't be afraid of scientific writing. It can be challenging, but you will grow from it. And don't forget: There is no one right approach. Try different approaches and see what works for you. The Writing Center will be happy to help you!
And most importantly: look forward to your study time and enjoy the small and big successes.
