April's alumna of the month is a sociologist
Mandy Schipke has always been interested in how and why people behave, which is why she studied sociology. But she also became interested in entrepreneurship at an early age. During her studies, she took part in a 5 EUR business competition and met her future founding team there. They were working on how batteries could be built and used in a more sustainable and ecological way. In order to promote this task, she became managing director of Novum engineering GmbH, which was founded in 2014 and has won several awards for its work. This makes her the only person from her class to have founded a company.
"Founding a company is a marathon," says Mandy Schipke, illustrating the path to successful entrepreneurship. "We don't need more companies, what we need are good companies. To be a good company, we have to do it well and human factors play a decisive role in this." People wanting to set up a company should look at the less obvious things that come after founding a company. By this she means down-to-earth attitude, gratitude and modesty.
In addition to her actual work, she is also Chair of the Board of the Energy Saxony network on a voluntary basis. "In addition to carrying out a great deal of political lobbying, the most important thing is to connect innovators with the right companies," she explains.
