Athletics scholarship holders 2020/21
2020 was a challenging year for our student athletes due to the pandemic. As a result, the athletics scholarship, which was awarded for the third time in 2020, is all the more important.
Some of this year’s scholarship holders are familiar faces: Elisabeth Lowke has received the scholarship for the third time. Bryan Nießen, Leon Hollas, Tom Liebscher and Bastian Rudolf were also scholarship holders last year. Lena-Marie Lieb, Michelle Hein and Laurenz Rieger have received the scholarship for the first time this year.
Congratulations!
This year’s eight scholarship holders introduce themselves here:
Name: Michelle Hein Degree program: Biology Sport: Rescue swimming
The scholarship primarily offers me financial support, enabling me to afford competition costs and training camp costs. It also allows me to buy new equipment.
Last year I became the European silver medalist in rescue swimming. Next year I would like to repeat the success I had in 2019 or even surpass it.
Name: Leon Hollas Degree program: Mechanical Engineering Sport: Archery
The scholarship supports me in buying new equipment, including accessories like arrows that frequently need replacing, and also helps me to balance by studies with my sport.
Next year I’d like to win a medal at the Universiade, the Olympics of university sports.
Name: Lina-Marie Lieb Degree program: Hydrosciences Sport: Volleyball
The scholarship mainly supports me with everyday things. As a first-semester student, this is the first time I’ve set out on my own. I’m living by myself for the first time and have to take care of myself and cook my own food. The scholarship offers me a lot of support in this.
This is the first year that I’ve been in the first national league for volleyball. I want to continue to grow there and integrate myself as well as possible. I also want to celebrate success together with my team and defend our title as cup winners.
Name: Tom Liebscher Degree program: Transport Engineering Sport: Canoe sprint
The scholarship offers me financial support and also support with my contact to the professors. This allows me to better balance my sport and my studies.
I want to achieve at least one medal at the Olympic Games in Tokyo next year.
Name: Elisabeth Lowke Degree program: Civil Engineering Sport: Rowing
The scholarship primarily demonstrates appreciation for my sport and also provides me with the financial freedom to train as much as possible.
Next year, I want to improve my personal record by five seconds. The university championships, which unfortunately couldn’t take place this year, are also a particular highlight for me for the next season. I’d like to do as well as I can there.
Name: Bryan Nießen Degree program: Water Management Sport: Basketball
The athletics scholarship allows me to combine university and athletics as best as possible, meaning I can make my everyday routine as professional as possible.
I would love to reach the play-offs with the Dresden Titans and win as many games as possible. I would also like to reach the final of the university championship.
Name: Laurenz Rieger Degree program: International Relations Sport: Fencing
The scholarship helps me juggle university and sports. Both are costly and time-consuming.
I am working towards qualifying for the world championship in Cairo. If it takes place, I’d like to compete to the best of my abilities there.
Name: Bastian Rudolf Degree program: Economics and Engineering Sport: High jump
The scholarship allows me to fully concentrate on my studies and my sport. This gives me more flexibility in my everyday life and means I don't have to look for a part-time job.
There weren’t any competitions this year due to Covid. I hope that I will be able to start out on the world stage next year.
