The cultural program for the summer semester 2015 begins on 30.05.2015 (Saturday). Our first excursion is to Castle and Park Pillnitz. Not only do you have the chance to visit this historic site and beautiful gardens, you will also have the opportunity to enjoy a concert played on musical instruments from the Baroque age - „Bratschenklänge - Viola da braccia und Viola da spalla“

On 7.6.2015 (Sunday), we will visit the Mathematisch-Physikalischen Salon in the Zwinger. “Time Machines”, historic contraptions, telescopes, astronomical models - like globes of the earth and stars - through an organized tour, you will get to know this historic collection of scientific devices belonging to the Saxon nobility dating back to the 16th century. The pieces in this collection are not only interesting in terms of technology, but are also works of art.

We will be visiting the “Elbschlösser” or Elbe Castles on 14.06.2015 (Sunday). Through this visit you have the opportunity to get to know the home and place of inspiration for one of Dresdens most important industrialist. Karl August Lingner, or the “Odolkönig”, gave the citizens of Dresden not only this gorgeous location on the Elbe, but also the Hygiene Museum Dresden. We won't just be visiting the castles, but also the beautiful Biergarten!

You have the opportunity to enjoy a bird’s eye view of Dresden on Sunday, June 21st 2015. The Dresdner Frauenkirche was destroyed during World War II; rebuilt in 2005, it is now, as it was before, a symbol for Dresden. Before you ascend the 91 Meter church tower, you take a tour of this impressive building and learn about its 1000 year history.

On Sunday, June 27th 2015 we will take a day trip to Bautzen and discover the medieval “City of Towers” in Oberlausitz. The famous mustard, Bautz’ner Senf, comes from here, and Bautzen is the capital of Germany’s Sorbish community. (The Sorbs are a slavish minority in Eastern Germany). Bautzen is also infamous for its former prison. Today the prison is a memorial to the injustice of the Nazis, the soviet occupation and the GDR. Get to know Germany’s history - from the Middle Ages to recent events!

Since 2001, people have been able to witness the making of Volkswagen’s new luxury class automobile at Dresden’s “Gläserne Manufaktur”. We will see the new Volkswagen assembly line on Wednesday, July 1st 2015. This building is not only special because of its location in the middle of the city, but also for the modern architecture – here technology meets culture.

In July we will go hiking in the Sächsische Schweiz and we will visit the Felsenbühne Rathen. On 12.7.2015 we will meet one of Saxony’s great literary sons: Winnetou, the hero from Karl May’s Wild West novels. We will see this story come alive as Winnetou and his friend Old Shatterhand ride real horses on the beautiful stage right in the middle of nature.

Our weekend trip this summer will take us to Berlin on 18th and 19th of July. You will get the chance to discover the German parliament, the Bundestag, from the inside and learn about the recent German history on a guided walk around the once seperated city - capital of the reunited Germany since 1990. In the famous Pergamonmuseum antique treasures are waiting for you while the Panorama Tower in Potsdamer Platz offers a great view over the city center.

Our last event for the summer semester is on Sunday, July 26th 2015. On this excursion we spend the day strolling through one of Dresden’s most beautiful neighborhoods: Loschwitz. Loschwitz is idyllically situated on the “Elbhang” between the river and the “Dresdener Heide. Situated among Loschwitz’s beautiful villas, the Lahmann-Sanatorium and the Ardenne-Institut conduct world renowned medical research. The planetarium is surely interesting for natural scientist, and engineers can explore the Dresden’s historic cable cars (Standseil- und Schwebebahn). We will ride both cable cars and visit the powerhouse.
