SYMPHONY CONCERT "RESURRECTION"
On Saturday, January 27, 2024 at 7:30 pm, the Dresden University Orchestra will perform its symphony concert "Resurrection" at the Kulturpalast Dresden. The program includes Symphony No. 2 in C minor for soloists, choir and orchestra by Gustav Mahler.
Mahler pushes the genre of the "symphony" to its limits with this epic work. With a huge orchestral apparatus, a long-distance orchestra, a choir and two vocal soloists (in our performance Aleksandra Chebotar, soprano, and Anna-Lisa Gebhard, alto) and a playing time of around one and a half hours, the symphony goes beyond the bounds of anything previously known. It mixes late Romanticism with modern musical ideas and interweaves the music with religious references such as the poem "Resurrection" by Friedrich Gottlieb Klopstock, from which it takes its nickname: "Resurrection Symphony".
This concert also marks the opening concert of the "100 years of BDLO" celebrations: This year, the umbrella organization, the Bundesverband Amateurmusik Sinfonie- und Kammerorchester (BDLO), is celebrating its 100th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Saxony's Minister of Culture Barbara Klepsch has also been invited to attend the concert and open it with a welcome address (requested).
