Study requirements
University degree in Biology, Hydrology, Water management or in a related study course, as well as
• At least 20 credit points from courses in ecology, evolution, and environmental protection, e.g., limnology, terrestrial and aquatic ecology, soil science, environmental management, ecotoxicology,
• At least 20 credit points from courses in foundations of biology or hydrosciences, especially zoology, botany, microbiology, molecular biology or hydrology, water resources and material flow management, and
• At least 15 credit points from courses in the mathematics and natural sciences subjects mathematics, physics and chemistry
• A further requirement is proficiency in the English language at the B2 level according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages is also required. For applicants whose native language is not English, this level must be verified by presenting a certificate for English at the 12th or 13th grade level of the German Abitur system or, alternatively, by presenting the results of a completed language test offered internationally (preferably IELTS: 6.5, TOEFL: 550 points).

Step 1: Online application for the degree course
- Please visit the online application page once the application period has started.
- After answering the questions in the application section, you will be guided to the corresponding application portal.
- After you have entered your data, you need to submit your online application.
- You will then be asked to print out your cover letter with your application number.
Step 2: Application for the Aptitude test or NC selection
For your application for the aptitude test or selection procedure required for your degree programme, you must send the following documents to the address below within the specified period. Once you have submitted the online application, we will let you know how (by post or email) and by what date the documents need be submitted to us. Please be advised that your application number from the online application is included in your application documents.
Required documents
a) General documents
• your online application - filled in and signed
• Copy of the higher education entrance qualification (usually Abitur certificate); if available, certificate of the higher education entrance examination (copy of the original and the translation in either German or English)
• Officially certified copy of the original and officially certified translation (German or English) of the degree certificate of the required first university degree. If the first university degree is not yet available: Confirmation from the first university that at least 80% of the work required for the current university degree programme has been completed, as well as information on the current average grade for degree programmes with entry restrictions (form on the Admissions Office website)
• Certificate of enrolment of the last semester studied, stating the semester of study
• If you are not yet enrolled at TU Dresden, a certificate of your academic achievements from your previous university stating all courses of study including semesters
• Copy of passport (for international applicants)
• Original certificate of the Academic Evaluation Centre of the German Embassy (APS) for Chinese and Vietnamese applicants
• Officially certified copy of proof of sufficient German language skills according to our notes on required german language skills
b) Special degree-specific documents
• Application for the suitability assessment on the website of the faculty
• Educational background in tabular form
• Half-page letter of motivation
• Officially authenticated certificates and documents that prove the particular expertise required
