TU Campus receives further sponsored trees

Professor Thomas Bürger and Rector Prof. Müller-Steinhagen at the tree handover
Eight trees were officially handed over to their donors on June 24, 2020 in the newly designed Rectorate Garden by the Rector of the TU Dresden and patron of the "Tree Sponsorships" campaign, Prof. Müller-Steinhagen. After the planting of seven sponsored trees in 2018, six Japanese cherry blossoms were planted in the Rectorate Garden and two tulip magnolias in front of the Graduate Academy in 2019. This autumn, further plantings on campus will follow with the help of tree sponsors. The donors have already received their donation letter from the Rector and were informed about the progress of the project.
The "tree sponsorships" campaign is an initiative of the student environmental group TUUWI to improve the outdoor spaces on the campus and to create more green oases. Embedded in the Master Plan Campus Design, the project is being implemented by the TU Dresden Foundation together with the TU Dresden Environmental Protection Group.
The variety of the tree sponsorships taken on and the solidarity with the university shown in this way is impressive - whether individual donations from employees or collection campaigns on the occasion of birthdays, anniversaries or seminar group meetings.
"I am very happy", said Professor Thomas Bürger (Director General of the Saxon State and University Library, 2003 - 2018) when handing over his tree. "The Japanese cherry donated by the SLUB staff on my departure will bloom in the wonderfully designed Rectorate garden in the future. The campus is becoming more and more beautiful and greener, so I will gladly donate another tree. The idea that students study in the shade of the trees is just too beautiful."
Further donors are always welcome! If you too would like to help shape the campus and are interested in sponsoring a tree, you can find more information here.
