Everybody can contribute to environmental protection
Join in - Environmental Management at TU Dresden © TUD
No matter if office, laboratory or lecture hall - resources can be saved everywhere. There are plenty of possibilities to contribute to active environmental protection at the university.
Join in - Use recycled paper
Overall, paper consumption at the TU Dresden has been declining for several years and amounted to around 75 tonnes in 2018. PEFC certified paper, i.e. fresh fibre paper from sustainable forestry, and recycled paper account for almost 90% of the paper used at the TU Dresden. The share of recycled paper in total consumption is around 27% (as of 2018).
If recycled paper is used instead of virgin fibre paper for printouts, resources can be saved: One small glass of water (0.15 l) less is needed per sheet for production. At the same time, the amount of energy needed to make a cup of coffee is saved. Various types of recycled paper, also with a higher degree of whiteness, are available from TU supplier for stationary Kreller.
Join in - Borrow our "Green Conferencing" sets
Conferences or project meetings are often associated with an increased volume of waste due to the use of disposable crockery and bottles. In order to reduce the amount of waste, the Environmental Management of the TU Dresden offers four "Green Conferencing" packages (for 12 people each) with glasses, coffee cups, thermos flasks, juice and water carafes for smaller events, which can be borrowed. A flyer with further information on environmental and sustainability aspects for the organisation of events can be found here.

Join in - Use our bicycle service stations
There are bicycle pump and repair stations for public use at the Verwaltungsgebäude 1 / Campus Office "Uni mit Kind", as well as in front of the Auditorium Centre (HSZ). The pumps with pressure up to 10 BAR have an adapter for all common valves. In addition, tools such as single-jaw wrenches, various screwdrivers and tyre levers are available for minor repairs to the pump stations. The larger station on the HSZ allows the bicycle to be hooked in for better handling. A QR code can be used to call up repair instructions via smartphone. The service stations were financed by the "Sustainable Campus" project and are intended to make the campus more attractive for cyclists. "Mach mit-Umweltmanagement" wishes a safe ride at all times!
Join in - Bicycle rental system for students
Since the winter semester 2017/2018 students of TU and HTW Dresden can use a bicycle rental system with the semester ticket in addition to public transport. Learn more
Join in - Waste separation trays for paper baskets
Recycling paper has clear ecological advantages compared with fresh fibre paper. The collection and recycling of waste-paper contributes also to reduce waste, but only if the paper is collected separately. Therefore residual and organic waste as well as plastic packaging should be collected in the three-part bins which can be found in all buildings on most corridors. Waste separation trays for paper baskets which help to separate waste in your office are available in the TU-interal online catalogue of Fa. Kreller (access only at TUD).
Join in -Job ticket for employees of the Free State of Saxony
For employees of the Free State of Saxony (i.e. also employees of TU Dresden) job tickets are offered for public transport. As a rule the job ticket is a monthly abo-ticket at a discounted rate for a certain tarif zone which is only for personal use from Mondays till Fridays from 6 am - 6 pm. During other times the ticket is transferable. During weekends the job ticket can be used as family ticket. Detailled information regarding the application is available on the Intranet (access only for TU members)(link).
Join in - Training courses on environmental management at TU Dresden
What are activities of the environmental management at TU Dresden - and how can I change routines to become more environmentally-friendly during my work day? Environmental Coordinator Ines Herr offers a 30-minute training course on environmental management at the TU Dresden. The training is offered, for example, as part of the annual occupational safety briefings and can also focus on specific structural units.

Information days of the past
On 22 May 2019 the 10th Health Day for all employees and students of the TU Dresden took place in the auditorium centre. The environmental management was represented with a stand on the topic of mobility. In Dresden, around 7,000 employees and 36,000 students move from their homes to the university and back every day. This means a considerable volume of traffic. It is therefore important to implement measures to improve sustainable mobility, focusing not only on the environment but also on health aspects. The environmental management informed about environmentally-friendly mobility at the TU. The smoothie bike was also present at the stand to mix smoothies yourself.

Stand der Büroartikeltauschbörse am 17. April 2019
Who hasn't seen it before: In desks and cupboards there are dozens of pens, writing pads or several packs of staples with a stapler that is no longer needed. A very good opportunity for spring cleaning at the workplace was therefore provided by the second office supplies exchange on 17 April 2019, organised by the TU's Environmental Management. On this day, employees and students could exchange office supplies which they no longer need or which were ordered too much, e.g. pens, erasers, sticky notes, calendars, folders, notepads, notebooks, brochure covers, dividers or staplers, etc.
The TU Dresden is on of the large-scale consumers of energy in Dresden. For running the university electricity and district heat is needed in a dimension corresponding to that of a small town. This is the reason why the energy consumption of the TU has been the topic of an information day in June 2018.
Besides information regarding energy usage at the TU the focus has been on possible measures of staff and student to reduce energy consumption in their everyday work as well as practical advice and an energy quiz.
The information day took place on 28 June 2018 as a cooperation of the environmental management of TU Dresden with the research project CAMPER. The project's aim is to analyse the energy consumption on the campus and to draft a development plan for the future showing saving potentials and concrete measures.
On June, 6, 2018 the 9th TU Health Day for employees and students of TU Dresden 06.06.2018 took place in the HSZ building (Hörsaalzentrum). Main topic were healthy food, mental health and exercises. Intersting presentations, counselling, measurements and sporty activities were offered. The team of the environmental management took part with their smoothie bike and an information desk. Visitors could mix smoothies with the bike and could casually collect information about environmental management of TU Dresden.
Under the motto "creativity against waste" the environmental coordination of TU Dresden organised an information day on May, 10, 2017 in the foyer of the old Mensa (Mommsenstr.) Visitors could gather information about waste separation and waste reduction at the workplace and at home. The swapping opportunity for not-used office equipment was organised for the second time and was well received. It should be repeated in the end of 2018.
