Decision on TUD’s excellence status
On March 11, the German academic community will be turning its attention to Bonn. The German Science and Humanities Council will take this opportunity to announce which universities will retain their University of Excellence status. This day will be of the utmost importance for TUD. It has been one of eleven German Universities of Excellence since 2012. In 2019, it was successful in defending its status; now it will be decided whether it will receive permanent funding as part of the nationwide Excellence Strategy.
Last year, TUD took part in the competition. The self-assessment report was submitted in August and was followed up by an inspection involving international experts in November. The university presented its progress in interdisciplinary research and its future-oriented projects. While the existing Universities of Excellence are busy defending their continued funding, new applicants are entering the process. A total of up to 15 institutions can be funded for the period 2027-2033. So, there is a lot at stake for TUD and Dresden as a science hub: It is about international visibility, funding in the millions and the opportunity to actively shape our approach to regional and global challenges. We are already tense with excitement - we will know the final verdict on March 11.
