Certificates enable users to digitally sign documents and e-mails and to send confidential information in encrypted form. The basis for issuing a certificate is an identity check, which is carried out at the TU Dresden by authorized persons on campus or centrally by employees of the Service Desk in presence or as a video identification procedure. Personal certificates can be obtained and revoked via the "Manage user certificates" tab. Certificates for function logins can be obtained through the central Service Desk. Server certificates (TLS certificates) are used to encrypt connections on the Internet, e.g. between a user's browser and the web server that provides a website, and thus protect sensitive data. Furthermore, TLS certificates serve as confirmation of the authenticity of a web server with which communication is taking place. Server certificates can be requested via the web form or via ACME. Certificates are provided by the certificate authority "SECTIGO" which replace our previous CA "DFN-PKI".
