Waste management
Table of contents
When it comes to waste management, TU Dresden follows the principles of preventing, reducing, recycling and safely disposing of waste. Information on waste disposal at TU Dresden is provided by the "Abfall-ABC" (Waste Guide for every waste type from A to Z) (Internal Area, in German).
Since 1999, TU Dresden has employed a waste sorting system in its facilities for separating packaging, paper and cardboard, and residual waste. Offices are equipped with bins for paper waste.
Measures
- We recommend using the three small bins for packaging and residual waste located in the hallways. This will require a garbage collection service. You can order collection services via the online shop or SRM (both Internal Area).
- We reduce waste in offices and collect for a good cause. The TerraCycle pen and marker collection program at TU Dresden and the University Hospital Dresden collect empty and defective writing and correction utensils. For each product collected, TerraCycle donates 1 cent to the University Hospital Dresden for projects in Children’s and Youth Psychiatry.
- We take part in the HandYcap mobile phone collection program and in the "Mobile phones for bumblebee, bee and Co." of the Nabu. Mobile phone collection posts for the HandYcap collection program are set up in the entryways of the Institutes of Chemistry’s new buildings, in the Student Council barracks, and in front of the Siedepunkt canteen on the Office Building Zellescher Weg (BZW). For the campaign "Mobile phones for bumblebee, bee and co." you can send your discarded mobile phone to the TU Dresden mailroom or hand it in on site at Helmholtzstr. 10.
- We also host an office supplies exchange (Internal Area), where TU Dresden staff can pass on items they no longer need to others.
- Do you desperately need office equipment? Then have a look at TU Dresden’s furniture storage! Shelves, desks, tables and chairs are brought to this intermediate storage facility and then offered and brought to other organizational units at TU Dresden who can reuse them. More information
- For smaller events at TU Dresden, the Environmental Protection Group offers four “Green Days packages” (each for 12 people) with glasses, coffee cups, thermoses and juice/water carafes as well as name badges that event organizers can borrow.
