Jointly shaping sustainability education : New event series “StadtWandel Dresden” (Dresden CityChange ) will launch on March 27, 2026
How can education help make cities more livable and sustainable? The new event series “StadtWandel Dresden” creates a traveling forum that highlights educational initiatives, sustainability projects, and presents committed local stakeholders across the city. From March to September 2026, various learning and experiential venues in Dresden will open their doors and invite the city’s residents to engage in dialogue, tocontribute ideas, and to network.
The series will showcase projects that consider education as extending beyond traditional learning environments. Each event will take place at a different venue and will combine insights into practical projects from schools, universities, civil society, government, and business with discussions on the role of education in social change.
The series will kick off on March 27, 2026, with an event in the teaching kitchen of the Adult Education Center at the Otto Dix Center. Titled “Use Instead of Waste”, the event from 1:00 pm–2:00 p.m. will focus on food waste and concrete ways to use resources more consciously in everyday life. Participants will gain insights into sustainable food practices and engage in conversation with local stakeholders.
The next event will take place on April 15, 2026 at the Matthäus-Friedhof Nursery from 1:00 pm–2:30 pm. The hands-on project “Building Bee Bridges” explores importance of wild plants for wild bees and demonstrates how urban spaces can be designed to support biodiversity.
The event series continues on May 5, 2026 with “Unlearn together – For a Decolonial World” at the Zukunftsgestalten non-profit association , located at Konkordienstraße 46, from 1:00 pm–2:00 pm. The focus of this event will be on how historical inequalities continue to shape global developments today and what role education plays in developing visions of a more just and sustainable future.
On June 16, 2026, the topic education for climate-adapted urban development will be explored. Architecture students from the Chair of Architectural Design and Construction II at the TUD Dresden University of Technology will present urban cooling islands designed to contribute to the cooling of public spaces as microarchitectural solutions. From 1:30 pm to 2:30 p.m., the students will provide insights into the current state of the designs and discuss, together with interested participants, the challenges and potential for implementing of such cooling spaces in the urban landscape.
On September 24, 2026, from 1:00 pm–2:00 pm, the Saxony Consumer Advice Center (Fetscherplatz 3, 01307 Dresden) will present its educational offerings on the topic of food and nutrition and present an overview into the diversity of sustainable nutrition education.
