New insect hotels for the TUD campus
Old trees and butterfly meadows are particularly important for biodiversity on campus. Due to their special mowing regime, the meadows represent an important refuge for numerous insect species. These valuable habitats have been further enhanced at two locations at the TU Dresden - at the Judeich Building in Tharandt and behind the Andreas Pfitzmann Building. Here insect hotels have been installed by the Sächsisches Immobilien- und Baumanagement (SIB). They provide new nesting and breeding habitats and offer year-round shelter for insects. The installation of the insect hotels supports the environmental protection group of the TUD to preserve biodiversity on campus. In patricular the group would like to thank the builders in the JVA Zeithain and the SIB for the construction and installation of the insect hotels.
