With the sustainability strategy adopted in 2023, the TUD has set an important milestone in anchoring sustainable development comprehensively and in a future-oriented manner in all areas of the university. Now another important step is being taken: the previous Environment Commission is being developed into the Sustainability Commission and will be broadened in terms of content.
The new Sustainability Commission builds on the previous work of the Environment Commission and will act as a strategic advisory body to the University Executive Board with an extended focus on all aspects of sustainability. It addresses key sustainability issues from both the university and urban society, supports the implementation and further development of the existing sustainability strategy and formulates recommendations for the University Executive Board.
Tasks of the Sustainability Commission
The commission is responsible for the following tasks in particular
- Advising the University Executive Board on all issues relating to sustainable development
- Recording and processing relevant topics from the university and urban society
- Drawing up statements and recommendations for the University Executive Board
- Strategic monitoring of the implementation of the sustainability strategy
- Active support in its further development
Call for participation
With the realignment of the commission, committed members are needed: University members who have interest, experience and professional expertise, at least in some areas of sustainability, are invited to consider a candidacy for the Sustainability Commission. Members play a central role in the further development of sustainable structures at the TUD. They contribute their professional expertise to strategic issues and help to introduce topics from their respective areas into the work of the commission and communicate them back to the university.
The feedback on the willingness to stand for election is initially non-binding and does not constitute a final appointment.
Appointment procedure
Interested parties are asked to provide brief feedback by June 22, 2026 . An overview of potential candidates per status group will then be drawn up and forwarded to the relevant Senate status groups. These select the members. The formal appointment will then be made by the University Executive Board and the constituent meeting of the new Sustainability Commission is planned for fall 2026.
