TU Dresden adopts comprehensive Sustainability Strategy and aims to be greenhouse gas-neutral by 2035
Climate change is progressing ever faster and we are quickly running out of time We only have a few years left to create the conditions necessary to meet our 1.5°C global warming threshold target. As a leading scientific institution in Germany, TU Dresden understands its responsibility to demonstrate ways of using available resources sustainably with numerous interdisciplinary and international research and transfer projects. At the same time, our university community strives to be a shining example of how an institution can successfully implement sustainability. In this way, our campus serves as a living lab. This is why TU Dresden has adopted a comprehensive Sustainability Strategy that clearly set outs how we intend to contribute to the responsible use of resources.
“With the Sustainability Strategy, we want to bring together the many fantastic and effective ideas we have at the university,” explains Prof. Roswitha Böhm, Vice-Rector University Culture. "We strive to create a framework within which we, as a large institution, can realistically address climate change and the social and economic issues it raises. We want to raise awareness of this issue at all levels of our university: in research, which is the basis for many innovations, and in the education of our students, who will be the change agents of tomorrow.”
The Sustainability Strategy of TU Dresden comprises six areas of activity with more than 80 measures – from the establishment of sustainability in internal structures and processes, to operations, campus design, research and teaching, digitalization with its various aspects, and dialog with society. “Our objective is to establish a culture of sustainability and to fill it with life: we see sustainability as an achievable vision for a future worth living, and at the same time as a guiding principle for our actions, in which we think about tomorrow – today,” says Prof. Roswitha Böhm.
