Invitation to the Future Lab on "Learning & Teaching" on May 26, 2021
University Executive Board Circular Mail of May 11, 2021
Dear members of TU Dresden,
On behalf of the Extended University Executive Board, we would like to cordially invite you to the 5th Future Lab, which is dedicated entirely to the future of university teaching:
“How do we want to teach? How do we want to learn?”
Wednesday, May 26, 2021
1 pm - 5 pm
In previous events, it was always conducive to start with a review. Therefore, we would like to give you a brief overview of what has resulted from the impulses collected during the 2018 Future Labs on the topic of teaching.
After revisiting the current strategies in the Vice-Rector Academic Affairs, we will address the central teaching topics together:
What characterizes quality teaching in the age of digitalization and digitalism? What significance should key competences have in teaching (focus: society and sustainability)? How should we formulate our joint mission statement for teaching?
These are just some of the questions that will be addressed during the seven thematic groups. You can view the other discussion topics on the Future Labs website, which include quality assurance, degree program development, study support services and lifelong learning. You can also find the schedule and registration form on the Future Labs website.
In this Future Lab, we are especially looking to encourage international students, lecturers and alumni to participate. To facilitate their participation, two thematic groups (key competences and lifelong learning) will be held primarily in English. Contributions in English are of course welcome in the other thematic groups, just as contributions in German are also welcome at any time.
In the university setting, teaching has suffered the most as a result of the pandemic. In this Future Lab, we won’t pretend that it is possible to discuss the aforementioned aspects without also taking the coronavirus situation into consideration. The thematic groups are, however, aimed at developments that will hopefully come to fruition at a time when we have well and truly left the restrictions of the pandemic behind us. As we are very interested in your experiences with teaching during the pandemic – including what insights and methods could be implemented in the future – we would like to invite you to share your assessments on the online platform padlet. If you are not able to be present on the date but would still like to participate, please send an email to .
The results of the Future Lab will be implemented by the Vice-Rectorate Academic Affairs. Which ideas will be implemented (and in which form) will be announced at the final event in November 2021.
We are looking forward to your active and lively participation!
Best regards,
Prof. Dr. Ursula M. Staudinger Rector
Prof. Dr. Michael Kobel
