Significant improvement in the QS World University Rankings: TUD enters the top 100 worldwide and the top 3 in Germany
In the current issue of the QS World University Rankings: Sustainability, TUD Dresden University of Technology has moved up more than 100 places compared to 2023, from position 181 to position 80. With this result, the university is among the top 100 and the top 5 percent in the areas of environmental and social sustainability. Among German universities, TUD has improved by six positions and is now ranked third.
This outstanding result is due to the fact that TUD has improved in all ranked areas. The positive development is particularly evident in the categories “Environmental Sustainability”, “Environmental Education” and “Environmental Research.” In the first two categories, TUD was able to almost double its score within a year: Environmental Sustainability (45.9 -> 76.4) and Environmental Research (38.9 -> 72.3). The ranking recognizes the universities' strategic focus on climate protection and their efforts in research and teaching in areas such as environmental and climate sciences. The influence and commitment of TUD graduates to a more sustainable world is also reflected in the results.
Prof. Ursula Staudinger, Rector of TU Dresden, stated: "At TUD, we firmly believe that we can only overcome global ecological challenges together. The current results encourage us on our way to developing TUD into an excellent model of an ecologically responsible university for the 21st century, while taking into account both a local and a global perspective. The results also show that the activities bundled in the Vice-Rectorate University Culture, which was established in 2020 and is the only one of its kind in Germany, and which we set up to achieve a more sustainable and ecologically responsible TUD, have not only been noticeably and visibly successful, but also quantifiably so.”
Prof. Roswitha Böhm, Vice-Rector University Culture, sees this success also as a confirmation of the university's sustainability strategy, which was developed from the ground up: "We have set ourselves ambitious goals for the sustainable development of our university and our society, for example in climate protection, sustainability research or education for sustainable development. Our diversity and our sense of community are catalysts for achieving these goals. Our research expertise and dedication are the key to a sustainable TU Dresden."
