State Parliament President Dr. Matthias Rößler visits the university archive
Archives are the memory of our society. They store and preserve documents of lasting value and make them available for use by all interested parties. TU Dresden has maintained its own archive since 1952, which houses historically valuable documents from research, teaching and administration since its foundation as a technical educational institution in 1828.
On 22 April 2024, President of the State Parliament Dr. Matthias Rößler visited the university archive and embarked on a very personal biographical journey. As a graduate of TU Dresden, doctoral student and later research assistant at the Dresden Friedrich List University of Transport, he inspected his own student and doctoral files. He was welcomed by the chancellor of the TUD, Dipl.-Oec. Jan Gerken, the director of the university archive, Dr. Judith Matzke, and Angela Buchwald, who is responsible for the collection. In conversation, the President of the State Parliament talked about his time as a student and his research activities and gave an insight into student life in the 1970s.
During the subsequent tour, he learned about the work, current projects and the archive's accommodation situation. Using the matriculation register of the Tharandt Forestry Academy, Victor Klemperer's personnel file and the rector's chain of the University of Transport as examples, he was able to gain an impression of the rich heritage of the university archive. With a view to the 200th anniversary of the founding of the university in 2028, the current research projects on "Technische Hochschule Dresden under National Socialism" and "TU Dresden in the university reconstruction in the East after 1989/90" were presented.
