Motivation in Tutorials – What to Do When No One Participates?
This workshop focuses on how to deliberately foster motivation in tutorials: through activation, well-matched tasks, and a good sense of when participants may feel over- or under-challenged. Together, we will look at typical situations where things slow down and collect simple, effective ideas to re-engage your group. You will take away practical impulses and a set of activation strategies for your next tutorial.
Participants will:
- be familiar with the key motivational factors for designing their tutorial.
- learn to maintain emotional distance and correctly interpret seemingly dismissive signals from participants.
- be able to plan a mix of methods that supports and enhances student motivation.
