Intercultural competence: Teaching with international students
In this workshop, you will have the opportunity to strengthen your intercultural competence and explore and try out approaches for designing teaching in an intercultural learning environment. Exchange and experiential methods are at the core of the workshop. We will begin with an overview of the theoretical foundations and use simulations to reflect on our own actions in the context of other cultures. Through practical exercises, participants will also learn about and try out effective techniques for intercultural communication and strategies for collaboration in culturally diverse working groups. In the final part of the workshop, we will develop concrete strategies for teaching international students, discuss the use of methods, and address individual challenges in teaching practice.
Learning objectives
After successfully completing the course, participants will be able to:
- classify intercultural competence in teaching and develop skills for perspective-taking
- reflect on communication strategies in an intercultural environment and develop possible courses of action
- develop a different awareness of intercultural situations in their teaching, analyze them, and respond to them didactically and methodologically
