Election Night with public viewing and live analyses: Symposium at the TUD on November 5 sheds light on the effects of the US election
The US presidential election will take place on November 5, 2024. In Germany, many are watching the duel between Kamala Harris and Donald Trump with excitement and concern. Because the election is also of great importance here in Germany. Employees at the Institute of Political Science are inviting you to Election Night on November 5 in the Zeuner Building at TU Dresden. In addition to lectures and interdisciplinary workshops, the program includes a panel discussion and live broadcasts from the USA. The event will conclude with a public viewing of the first projections.
On the occasion of the US presidential election, the Election Night, organized by the Chair of International Politics and the Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics, will bring together academic experts, voices from politics, society and business on the evening of 5 November from 5:30 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. The event is supported by TUD im Dialog and the Internationalization Fund, the Dresden International Relations Association and the FSR Phil.
In specialist lectures and short workshops, various aspects of the presidential election will be examined, such as the role of social media in the election campaign, the increasing polarization and the economic ties between Germany and the United States of America. On the panel, representatives from politics and business will discuss the implications of the US presidential election and its significance for Europe, Germany and Saxony with academics. The public viewing of the first forecasts and projections, accompanied by live analyses by experts, will round off the program.

- 17:30: Welcome by Stefanie Gerstenberger and Erik Vollmann (organizers), Prof. Dr. Anna Holzscheiter (International Politics, Institute of Political Science), Prof. Dr. Christian Prunitsch (Departmental Spokesperson GSW), Prof. Dr. Roswitha Böhm (Vice-Rector University Culture) and Dave Panetti (Consul for Public Affairs, U.S. General Consulate Leipzig).
- 18:00: Lecture on the importance of transatlantic relations for the Free State of Saxony, Conrad Clemens (Minister of State for Federal Affairs and Media, Head of the State Chancellery).
- 6:30 p.m.: Interdisciplinary lectures by Prof. Dr. Sven Engesser (Communication Studies), Dr. Manès Weisskircher (Political Science) and Prof. Dr. Christian Leßmann (Business Administration and Economics).
- 20:00: Interdisciplinary workshops on the topics of culture and media, democracy and economics.
- 21:30: Panel discussion with Robert Beuthner (IHK Dresden), Laura Stellbrink (MdL, SPD), Prof. Dr. Elvira Rosert and Dr. Jochen Kleinschmidt (TUD)
- From 11:00 pm: Live broadcast of the election results with commentary and live broadcasts to the USA (including Prof. Dr. Marianne Kneuer, Chair of Political Systems and Comparative Politics).
