The Center for International Studies is delighted to welcome Dr. Molly O‘Neal as a Fulbright Visiting Scholar for the summer semester 2022.
Dr. O’Neal, a former U.S. diplomat, earned her PhD at Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) in 2012, specializing in Contemporary Russian Politics, Economics and Society, Post-Communist Economic Transformations, and American Foreign Policy
She worked as a visiting researcher at the Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik in Berlin, studying intra-EU politics and populist challenges to the European Union. She is an adjunct professor in the Political Science Department at Baylor University, Waco, Texas.
In 2013 she was an IREX research scholar at MGIMO, Moscow, having an Embassy Policy Specialist fellowship for research on Russia in the WTO. In 2015-16, she was a Fulbright Research Scholar and lecturer at Collegium Civitas in Warsaw.
Dr. O’Neal is the author of Democracy, Civic Culture and Small Business in Russia’s Regions: Social Processes in Comparative Historical Perspective (Routledge, 2016) and a number of articles and conference papers on economics, politics, and geography in Russia, other states of the former Soviet Union, as well as Poland.
In the summer term, Dr. O’Neal will be teaching a seminar: “America’s Encounter with the World: Historical Approaches to Understanding American Foreign Policy“. The seminar is open to students of International relations and Political Science. While at TU-Dresden, she will also be pursuing research interests related to Germany's role in EU foreign and security policy and the changing nature of the Transatlantic relationship.
