International Relations alumnus and his company become 2024 Technology Pioneer
The World Economic Forum has selected Hannes Klöpper, an alumnus of the Center for International Studies (ZIS), and his company HelloBetter as one of the 100 Technology Pioneers of 2024. The online therapy platform is thus following in the footsteps of well-known technology companies such as Airbnb, Google, Mozilla, Spotify, TransferWise and Wikimedia.
Its CEO and co-founder comments: "People all over the world are increasingly suffering from mental stress. At HelloBetter, we are working tirelessly to tackle this issue by using digital technologies in order to provide effective, easily accessible and scalable digital solutions that empower people to help themselves. In Germany, our state-approved, evidence-based, digital programs enable people to access care without waiting times throughout the entire country, as the costs are fully covered by all statutory and most private health insurance companies."
Hannes Klöpper graduated in International Relations in 2006 and has since been living in Berlin. After completing his Bachelor's degree at TU Dresden and the University of Strasbourg, he went on to study Liberal Arts at the European College of Liberal Arts and Public Policy at the Hertie School in Berlin and Columbia University in New York. Subsequently, he co-authored the book "Die Universität im 21. Jahrhundert" (The University in the 21st Century). From 2011 to 2017, he was co-founder and managing director of the start-up iversity (now part of Springer Nature), an online platform specializing in higher education and continuing education. Since 2019, Hannes Klöpper has been CEO of HelloBetter, a company that develops and markets digital health applications for the treatment of mental illness.
He comments on the award: "We are very excited to be able to benefit from the Forum's global network to advance our mission and collaborate with leaders from all over the world in order to firmly establish HelloBetter even beyond Germany in many other countries' healthcare systems worldwide. We want to join forces and tackle the global mental health crisis - one of the biggest public health challenges of our time."
