Research Interests
My main research goal is to unravel principles of adverse decision-making immanent in the development of certain psychiatric diseases like major depression, compulsive or addictive behaviors. One major challenge with these disorders is that there is a large population that displays subclinical symptoms, but it is hard to predict, which individuals will later develop a disorder requiring treatment. I explore this issue by utilizing computational models of human cognition and behavioral and social dynamics. Validating these models by testing their predictions on the behavioral as well as the neurobiological level in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies, I hope to support the creation of innovative prevention and intervention tools.
