Further cooperations
Integral Water Management
In the project, which has been running since 12/2019, a team from the fields of landscape architecture, urban hydrology, meteorology and building physics is researching the complex processes of simple intensive green roofs. On a roof in the Botanical Garden, 21 individually recordable experimental plots have been set up. The roof areas are irrigated by gray water from the administration building. The aim is, among other things, to quantify the effects of irrigated simple intensive greening on building fabric and climate, water balance, ambient climate as well as vitality and aesthetics of the planting.

Components for the reduction of solar UV exposure regarding occupational safety and health
About 3 million employees in Germany work mainly outside. Often they are exposed to a high UV-load for several hours a day. Consequently, they bear a double risk to develop skin cancer.
The Bundesanstalt für Arbeitsschutz und Arbeitsmedizin and the Klinik und Poliklinik für Dermatologie of TU Dresden analyzed different protection strategies towards their efficiency and practicability. In the course of the study several long term measurements and tests have been conducted in cooperation with the employees of the Botanical Garden Dresden, who work outside regularly. The results of the study offer valuable guidelines for employers and employees.
Long-term behavior of electrical contacts in tropical climate
Increasing energy consumption worldwide and structural transformation in its supply result in profound changes to electric energy systems – leading to a significant need for research in this field.
In the light of this development, it is important to gain insights into the long-term behavior of electrical connections in ‘extreme climates’ (compared to climatic conditions in Europe). Comparative studies have been carried out in coastal and desert climate in Egypt, in tropical settings in Brazil, under subpolar conditions in Siberia as well as in the tropical conservatory in Dresden.
