Public guided tour on July 20, 2025: North American national flowers (a selection)

Der Kalifornische Mohn (Eschscholzia californica) ist seit 1903 Staatsblume von Kalifornien
Declaring plants of cultural and historical significance for a region as national flowers is not a very common practice in Europe. The situation is different in the United States. In California, "California Poppy Day" is celebrated on April 6th to honor California's state flower, the California poppy (Eschscholzia californica). Bluebonnets from the lupine genus play a role in Texan identity, and the giant goldenrod (Solidago gigantea), a species considered problematic in this country, with its bright golden-yellow inflorescence, is the state flower of the US state of Kentucky. But how does a plant become the national flower?
Join gardener Jérôme Dietzschauf on a journey through the American plant world and learn about some of the species and their stories.
The approximately one-hour public tour takes place on July 20, 2025, at 2 p.m. The meeting point is the garden entrance at Stübelallee 2. All public tours are free of charge – donations are welcome! Registration is not required.
Following the tour, the event "Triff die Koryphäe unter der Konifere" will take place, also free of charge.
